Location

  • Uiseong-gun is located near the center of Gyeongsangbuk-do. It is bounded by Andong-si and Yecheon-gun on the north, Cheongsong-gun on the east, Gunwi-gun and Gumi-si on the south, and Sangju-si on the west.
  • The latitude and longitude of Uiseong-gun are as follows: to the north extremity is Geumo-ri, Chunsan-myeon, to the west extremity is Nakjeong-ri, Danmil-myeon, the south extremity is Hyunri-ri, Gaeum-myeon, and to the north extremity is Yonggok-ri, Dain-myeon.
  • Since Uiseong-gun is located at the center of the province, all the cities and counties in the province are within 80 km except for Uljin-gun; and due to the development of the road network, the inland distances are gradually decreasing. The central railroad passes through Gumseong-myeon, Uiseong-eup and Danchon-myeon in the north and the south, and since the central expressway goes through Bongyang-myeon and Yangpyeong-myeon, Uiseong IC was installed in Dowon-ri, Bongyang-myeon. National Road No. 5, which runs between Daegu and Andong, was expanded into a four-lane road; the roads, including the national roads between Uiseong and Youngcheon and between Bongyang and Dain, have been extended by a total of 85km, and the local roads are as long as 211km and gun roads 140km.

Area

  • The total area of Uiseong-gun is 1,175.2㎢, which takes up 1.2% of the entire area of South Korea, and 6.2% of the area of Gyeongsangbuk-do. In order of size by use are 831.0㎢(70.7%) of forest land, 214.6㎢(18.2%) of farmland, and 32.6㎢(2.7%) of rivers. Oksan-myeon of the largest area in the county is 104.1㎢, and the smallest area, Danbuk-myeon, is 23.9㎢.

Climate

  • The yearly average temperature is 11℃, and it is a cold and dry region with very little precipitation due to its geographical nature as an inland basin situated between Taebaek and Sobaek mountain ranges. It rains an average of 92 days annually. The year with the most precipitation was 1972, with 1,290mm, and the year with the least precipitation was 1994, with 505mm. The average precipitation is 960mm, which shows the shortage of rainfall, comparing to the national mean of 1,250mm.
